Sara Moylan began her entrepreneurial journey in 2011 after recognizing that wearing up to three sports bras at once to work out was not only uncomfortable but also downright ineffective. Determined to find a better solution, she cut, sewed, and hot glued a few bras together to find the right support before bringing her idea to a tailor for some professional assistance.

After wearing her own prototype for years and overhearing other women at the gym dealing with similar support issues, Moylan decided to patent her idea. In 2013, she began a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of the product. She met half of the goal within the first few days and quickly exceeded her goal. With the help of her supporters, Moylan developed Shefit, a line of high-impact, adjustable sports bras. She worked on developing the strategies and direction for her business plan with Bonnie Nawara, GROW CEO, and with the GROW team.

The courses and assistance from GROW helped Moylan to perfect her pitch and eventually land a spot on ABC’s “Shark Tank”, where she received an investment from Daymond John. With orders continuing to roll in since then, Moylan shares her story of achievement.

“Starting a business is a journey, and there are so many paths one must tackle,” says Moylan. “As a woman in business, having direction and support can make a world of difference. It really set me up for success. With all the plans out there and all the advice, there are so many ways to go, and [GROW] really helped me to focus.”

“Bonnie was great,” says Moylan. “She helped connect me with other well-suited GROW customers who I could partner with and grow some grassroots word of mouth.”

Moylan believes that committing the time to professional development is vital: “Make the time to commit to the classes or the sessions that a team leader can provide to you. Without taking the time to see if this is something that could make a significant impact, you’ll never know what you could have gained.”

Everything starts with an idea and a plan.
